Stronger, Healthier, Happier: A Member Story

Angela DeMoss

The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park has quickly become like a second home to me over the past year.

It all started when I went to the doctor and saw 300lbs on the scale. That number clicked a factory reset button inside of my head. I realized I had more mobility issues than one should have in their thirties, and with having a family history of numerous health-related issues, it was time to lock in and care for myself the way I have always cared for those in my life. And so I began my journey in January 2025.

Because of my love of water, I chose to join the Aquatic Center and started doing my best at doggy paddling. It was shortly after I realized I needed something more and wanted to familiarize myself with gym equipment and feel comfortable doing so. I looked at their webpage and saw that their Personal Trainer, Brad Parsons, individualized workout plans for all of his clients. So I messaged him, explaining my gym anxieties and general awkwardness, mobility issues, and asked if he thought he could help. I met with him the next week.

My life completely changed that day. Brad helped me create a workout and food plan, even going as far as giving me his personal phone number to ask him any questions I might have. He’s been here for me every step of the way, helped me with accountability, strength and conditioning, and has now become someone I consider a friend.

And here I am, over a year later, down almost 120lbs without surgery or medication and completely in love with health and fitness. I have learned about self-discipline and have in turn, gotten stronger physically and mentally, have gained a more efficient cardiovascular system where I am no longer out of breath doing basic tasks, and have completed little goals I set like buckling a seatbelt on an airplane and fitting a hotel towel around my body. I have the confidence I didn’t know I was missing.

What really makes this place special is the people.  All of the staff here at every level of the facility has been so kind. Before I even walk through the doors, most days the receptionist already has my towel out and ready for me with a smile on their face. The gym is the perfect size for what I need without complicating things. And the gym members I have met have all been so very supportive and uplifting.

I feel very thankful that my life has steered me in this direction, and I look forward to continuing my journey alongside the Peak Health Aquatic Center family. ❤️
