Swim Lessons at Mylan Park
The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park is proud to partner with the American Red Cross to provide curriculum and certified Water Safety Instructors.
Sessions every 2 months: January, March, May, July, September, and November annually. Progression through these classes will build water safety skills and teach swimming.
All levels are based on the participant’s age and skill. If you or your child is placed in the wrong level the instructor will let you know on the first day of class and recommend an alternative.
For ages 6 months – 4
Parent and Child aquatics classes are basic skill classes where parents or guardians are taught how to safely work with their child in the water, including how to support and hold their child, how to positively encourage a child to participate in each activity, and various water safety tips. Parents or guardians will introduce skills to their children that build a foundation for learning to swim.
One parent or guardian must be in the water during the class, other parents and/or guardians are allowed to spectate from the side.
Levels 1 – 4
Pre-Swim classes that are part of the Lean to Swim program at Mylan Park. These classes are for toddlers ages 3 – 6 years. Children may have participated in a parent and child course previously but should still enter at Pre-Swim Level 1 if 3 years of age.
Children between the ages of 3.5 and 6 years old should enter Pre-Swim Level 1-3 depending on skill. Please make sure to register your child for the appropriate class based on the criteria below. Specific skill requirements are necessary to advance to the next level.
Please note that taking a course one time does not mean it was successfully completed. Most students will repeat courses to master the necessary required skills for the next level. No set amount of time is allotted to master specific skills, please be patient and remember that confidence and competency take time and repetition.
Levels 1 – 5
Youth Swim Classes are for youth ages 6 -12 years. Children may have participated in a toddler course previously which could prepare them for a higher level course than Level 1: Intro to Water Skills. Please make sure to register your child for the appropriate class based on the criteria. Specific skill requirements are necessary to advance to the next level.

Splash Adaptive Competition:
Adapted Aquatics Swim Classes are part of the Aquatics Program at Mylan Park. Through group work and individual attention, students will play and learn elementary aquatic skills. The class focus is on water safety, breath control, pulling and kicking, and adjustment skills with lesson plans developed based on the participant’s swimming ability.
Splash Adapted – Competition is designed for youth and young adults with disabilities who have advanced swimming skills and are interested in competitive training or participation in competitive events. This program focuses on refining technique, building endurance, and preparing participants for higher-level competition in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Class Focus Includes:
- Flip turns
- Stroke refinement
- Proper breathing techniques
- Starting block entries
- Time-improvement strategies
Lesson plans are individually tailored to each participant’s skill level, ensuring personalized instruction and the guidance needed to build confidence and achieve success in competitive events.
Thank you to The John Matthew Gray Brown Foundation and The George D. Hott Memorial Foundation for supporting the growth of the Adapted Aquatics Program at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
Private, Semi-Private, & Small Group Lessons
Private lessons are designed to help students who are having difficulty with specific skills in a group lesson or if they need a little more attention to move past a challenging skill.
In a private lesson, students will work one-on-one or two-on-one with a qualified instructor. Lessons are tailored to meet your individual needs, teach you how to swim, or refine your skills. Swimmers of all levels, ages, and abilities can sign up – it’s never too late to learn how to swim.
We are excited to share that we have revamped the Mon County Mini Swimmers Program.
Residents of Monongalia County, as well as students who attend a school in Monongalia County, are now eligible to receive one free group swim lesson session per academic year until they successfully complete Level 3.
Children ages 12 months and older qualify for this program. Proof of residency in Monongalia County or school enrollment within the county is required at the time of registration.
In addition, participants who choose to continue in lessons after their free session will receive a discounted rate of 10% off their second session.
We are thrilled to continue expanding access to swim lessons and helping more children build confidence and safety skills in the water.

For these cancellations, an attempt will be made to transfer or change your child’s class, or partial credit will be awarded depending on the circumstances. Reschedules:
We are not able to provide make-up classes for any of our progressive-style classes. The class you sign up for is the class you must attend each week. Our classes have different instructors and each class develops at a different speed together so please only attend your scheduled program. Remember the more often you attend the better the progression within the class.
Waiting Lists:
When a class fills a waiting list will automatically be generated for the first 6 people. There is no charge to wait. We will contact you if a space becomes available. You may also contact us after the first refund deadline or after the first class meeting to see if a space has opened in your preferred course. Payment will be required at the time of joining the class. Prorated payments are available who join after the first class meeting. No registrations will be allowed after the 2nd class meeting.
Skip days:
Holidays or other planned days of the class are listed in the guide, as well as noted on the class schedule. These days off are planned and therefore are reflected in the pricing of the course so no refund is necessary. In the case that your class is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, we will make an attempt to reschedule the session at the end of the course, if that is not possible because we begin our next session right away, we will provide a credit to your account towards a future session, visit pass, private lesson, birthday party or any other program or service we provide.
