Miracle Sports
Complex and Miracle Field
Home to the third Miracle League baseball field in the United
States, the Miracle Sports Complex is a place where dreams
are brought to life for children with physical and developmental
disabilities. The field has a custom-designed rubber surface
covering both the outfield as well as the infield that allows
easy access for wheelchairs and walking devices. The bases
are flat to the ground to prevent falls. In a partnership
with Mylan Park, Stepping Stones conducts a variety of recreational
programs at this facility.

professional class pitching courts. In cooperation with
the Mylan Park Horseshoe Pitching Club, improvements are

troops in 29 counties throughout West Virginia, Ohio and

Athletic Field
Complex and
Special Events Area
Mylan Park opened another major recreational venue in the
fall of 2004, the Athletic Field and Special Events Venue.
With approximately 10 acres of multi-purpose grass fields
and over 4 acres of parking, the Athletic Field and Special
Events Area provides enough field space for approximately
four sports fields, designed to host soccer, rugby, lacrosse
and football, as well as ample space for large community
gatherings, fairs and festivals. Last year it hosted the
Mountaineer Balloon Festival and the Kelly-Miller Circus.
As a one-of-a-kind facility, Mylan Park plans to continue
to add additional support structures, such as restrooms,
concessions and pavilions in the future.
Stepping Stones
Recreation Center
A modern 11,000 square foot facility that includes activity
areas, a gymnasium, an outdoor therapy pool, and office
space is home to Stepping Stones. This non-profit organization
is dedicated to helping people with disabilities achieve
their maximum level of independence through innovative recreation
and personal programs.
PACE Training
and Evaluation Center
(PACE TEC)
In 2004 PACE TEC purchased nearly four acres of land at
Mylan Park for this 17,000 square feet, fully accessible
employment training facility for individuals with disabilities.
Major components of the facility include a large production
area designed for multiple training programs including light
manufacturing and assembly tasks, and a custom designed
commercial kitchen to serve as a new culinary arts training
program to prepare individuals for employment in food service.
The building is to be completed and fully operational by
the end of the 2009.
Alternative
Learning Center
The Alternative Learning Center (ALC) has been part of the
Monongalia County Schools system for thirty (30) years.
The ALC has been located at Mylan Park since the fall of
2001. It is also recognized by the West Virginia State Department
of Education as an exemplary academic program. The purpose
of the center is to serve the needs of At-risk high school
age students. Academic goals include earning required credits
for graduation or GED instruction. Elective credits include
technology education, fitness education, outdoor adventure
sports, and community service projects. Students earning
credits can return to their home schools and graduate with
their class.
Monongalia
County Schools Transportation Center

a central repair and maintenance area for nearly 100 school
busses. Bus drivers are also trained at this location.

Amphitheater
An amphitheater will be constructed in the natural bowl
area below Anker Fields, and will provide for a large covered
stage, support facilities such as dressing rooms, prop storage,
and administration. A covered seating area for approximately
2,400 persons, with additional lawn seating will accommodate
well over 4,000 persons for dance, drama, and musical performances.
Ice Arena
To provide a much needed, spectator friendly ice arena for
the Morgantown / North Central West Virginia area, the arena
will become a venue for a Junior A hockey team, WVU hockey,
as well as high school and recreational league play that
would likely attract a significant number of spectators.
Figure skating events such as ice festivals would also utilize
this venue. The 3,000 seat arena would include locker rooms,
lobby space, administration, concession areas, storage,
and mechanical. During summer months, it would be used as
a mid-sized indoor arena.
Indoor Show
Arena and Stables,
Equestrian Center
To support horse events at the existing show rings, and
to provide for year-round horse events, an Indoor Show Ring
and Stables facility has been identified for the equestrian
center at the western portion of the park. This would include
a large arena of approximately 110 x 260 feet, and additional
area for stalls, each containing 144 sf to accommodate 46
horses. Storage and administrative space would also be included.
Softball Field
Complex
To help address the demand for softball fields in the Morgantown
area, two lighted fields will be constructed on the south
side of the road to the Equestrian Center. This will include
dugouts, fencing, scoreboards, bleachers, and parking.

Tent and Trailer
Campground
As a location for a variety of large special events such
as Mountainfest, the Mountaineer Balloon Festival, Equestrian
Events, and Baseball Tournaments-all bringing large numbers
of people to the Morgantown area for multiple days, a tent
and trailer campground area, consisting of 50 campsites
is needed. This campground will provide sites with water
and electrical hookups, and a picnic table. Support facilities
will include a registration building with small concession
area, coin-operated laundry, showers, and rest rooms. Also
included would be a 500 gal Propane tank for retail sales.
Picnic Shelters
(3)
Picnic shelters to accommodate 60-100 people for sit down
meal functions at picnic tables will be placed adjacent
to the lower field, at the Equestrian Center, and in the
area of the proposed Softball fields. Each shelter will
contain rest rooms, a warming kitchen, and storage space.
A group sized grill will be provided adjacent to each shelter.
In addition to meeting the need for such structures for
group social events such as reunions, receptions, and organizational
gatherings, the design will permit them to be used as concession
centers to support park-wide special events.
Family Fun
Center
To be located in the area that is currently the Park Office,
a family fun center consisting of a miniature golf course,
aquatic play area, and go-cart track would provide a seasonal
recreational attraction for families as well as to attract
impulse use by visitors who are in the park for other activities.
